Puerto Rico CasinosMost of the casinos you'll find in Puerto Rico are located in the capital of San Juan. They are also a lot more "cozy" than the ones you'll find in Las Vegas. All 18 casinos are located within hotel complexes. Condado, Isla Verde and Old San Juan are all located in the San Juan Metro area. Isla Verde is actually in the City of Carolina which of course is so near San Juan that you'll see hotels advertising they are in San Juan. The San Juan metro area includes Carolina, Santurce, San Juan, Bayamon, Guaynabo, Hato Rey and other smaller municipalities. Fajardo is in the northeast of the island while Humacao is in the southeast, Ponce is in the south and is Rio Grande east of San Juan near El Yunque. I personally visited the Diamond Palace Hotel & Casino, the Radisson Ambassador Plaza Hotel & Casino and the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino. The Marriott was by far the best of the lot. The Radisson property seemed like it was tucked away in between other stuff with a narrow feel to it. I wasn't even sure that I was headed in the right direction until I saw the "main" casino near the lobby. The Diamond Palace looked more like an small older downtown Vegas property than a Caribbean casino. Many websites and travel guides also mention a casino in the Convento Hotel in San Juan. During a tour of the hotel with the sales manger, he told me that they closed it down because it was not conducive to the intimate and private feel that they want to maintain for guests. In order to walk around inside the hotel you must be a guest. You'll need to use your room key to access any of the areas within the hotel. The casino at the Hyatt Cerromar Beach Resort in Dorado has also closed. They converted their hotel rooms into timeshare units. The Marriott was clean, crisp and professional. You at once feel welcome and appreciated. The Marriott's beach and pool areas are quite nice and something that you would expect from a high priced quality hotel. Since I approached the hotel from the beach, I had to walk through the hotel to the front to get to the casino entrance. The Marriott casino is supposedly smaller than the Radisson, but you surely wouldn't think so by looking at it. As I recall, the Marriott casino seemed more like one big open casino whereas the Radisson had more of a curvy design with various slot machine areas and rooms adjoining each other. If you want to gamble in Puerto Rico, head to the Marriott! You can check out my travel site for more photos of Puerto Rico, information or to book hotels.
