Canterbury
Park Racetrack and Card Club
Minnesota Gaming in Shakopee
Canterbury Park Racetrack and Card Club is the number-one
year-round destination for the intelligent player. Located in Shakopee, MN,
Canterbury Park is just 25 minutes from both downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Racing
Racing begins at 6:30PM on Thursdays and Fridays and at 1:30PM on weekends
and holidays. But don't arrive at the last minute. Admission gates open an hour
and a half before the first race. Come out early and get ready to enjoy the day.
Expect to see anywhere from 9 to 12 races each day.
General Admission to live racing at Canterbury is $4 per person and includes
an official program for the day's races. Parking is always free at Canterbury.
You will find plenty of free seating both indoors and out. If you want to
reserve a table in the clubhouse click here for further information.
You certainly won't spend the entire day in your seat. There is just too much
happening to do that.
On weekends and holidays beginning at 12:30 be sure to attend the free New To
The Races seminar on track level. Once there you will learn how to read the
official program as well as learning about the different types of wagers that
are available to you.
Every racing day beginning 40 minutes before first post you should be outside
the walking ring and paddock getting ready for the race preview show Today At
The Races with track announcer Paul Allen. Paul and his guest will discuss the
day's races and make their selections.
While watching Today At The Races you will see the horses for race one
entering the paddock (just as you will before each race). Each horse is saddled
for the race by his trainer while in the paddock. Each horse will also wear a
bright saddlecloth with the official program number on it. This helps you easily
identify each horse. You will also see the jockeys make their way into the
walking ring where they discuss the race with the trainer before hopping aboard
and heading to the track.
Once the horses reach the track it is time for you to make your wagers. You
can do that at any of the mutuel windows located throughout the facility.
With your betting ticket in-hand, head back to your seat or down to the rail
to watch the race. Announcer Paul Allen will paint a verbal picture of the race
as it unfolds and you cheer your horse home. If you have a winner just stop at
any mutuel window to cash your ticket.
After each race you may want to head back to the paddock to have another look
and listen to track handicapper Kevin Gorg make his analysis.

Canterbury Card Club is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week offering
several variations of poker and Casino games.
